About Us
The Chimera Gallery is now in its ninth year, we have gone from strength to strength on a natural course but all good things come to an end , or do they… change is a difficult process for some but not for the Chimera.. Change is a foot and its exciting and it’s around the corner.
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”
– Pablo Picasso
“Great art picks up where nature ends”
– Marc Chagall
“The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel”
– Piet Mondrian
The Beginning
In 2009, gallery owner Dave O’Shea curated a small, intimate exhibition for artist Hazel Revington-Cross at the Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, marking the beginning of their journey. Shortly after, they explored pop-up shops in local hotels as a way to connect with local art collectors and understand their tastes. By 2010, Dave and Hazel decided to close their garden center business and transform its shed into a small gallery, giving rise to The Garden Gallery. In 2014, after honing their respective skills, the two parted ways to follow different artistic paths while continuing to support each other. That year saw the opening of both The Purple Raven Gallery and Chimera Gallery.
Owner & Part-time staff
The Chimera is a one man show so to speak but would hire local help for exhibition evenings and would be lost without them. The Gallery takes part in local school intern schemes and work experience.
ARTISTIC & PROGRAMMING
All programming and exhibitions are run by Dave, the Chimera very much involves the artist to input as much as possible and tailors to their different needs.
COLLABORATION
The Chimera will in 2020 start an international collaboration with Galleries in New York, Chicago and Austria… A very exciting time ahead
