Artist Statement: Well I’ll just say a few words about my artwork and choice of subject matter… I work in oils, print and gouache. The subject matter of my work includes urban, industrial and landscape. The diverse terrain and changing skyline as seen from the train, motorway or bicycle gives me endless dramatic vistas to work from.
I trained in graphic art and I worked in that industry for some years before I made the switch to painting. I am self taught. I use a limited range of colours, this gives me a palette of muted tones, which helps create the kind of atmosphere I want in my work. Favourite subjects of mine include big skies and waterways. My style is representational.
I am constantly taking photographs. I edit these images and they become the starting point for a paintings. I like artists like Winslow Homer, Joaquin Sorolla and Edouard Vuillard. I particularly like the work of American artist Edward Hopper, his work has a bold clean graphic look, drama in the common place.
She is a member of The Water Colour Society of Ireland.
