Cormac O'Leary is a contemporary Irish painter who returns again and again to the human figure — the bather, the quiet nude, the body in private moment. His oils on board carry the weight and tactility of heavy impasto, and his palette runs from cobalt and Mediterranean blue to ochre, terracotta and sun-bleached yellow. There is a Mediterranean restfulness in the work — figures at the edge of water, the warm hush of a southern wall — held together by an unmistakably Irish painterly handling: tender, candid, never overworked.
