FAMOUS ARTISTDave West
Dave West was born in Penclawdd, South Wales and raised in Swansea City. He studied at the Carmarthenshire College of Art & Design and is now settled in Balbriggan, North County Dublin.
Dave is a figurative Artist and his current work is primarily concerned with relationships between landscape, light and mood – His aim is to give a poetic voice to everyday, mundane places – often seen through the muted half-lights of dawn and dusk or the neon glow of streetlamps.
Much of the subject matter deals with the urban and contemporary. – the overlooked structures and detritus of modern society. These range from electricity substations and refuse bins to children’s toys and candy bars. ‘I try to raise them to an iconic level but refrain from any overt social commentary.’
Dave has recently held numerous successful solo exhibitions. His work has been selected for the Royal Ulster Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Society of Marine Artists annual exhibitions.
His work is also in many private and corporate collections including the OPW, Texaco Corp., BP and Fingal County Council.
Dave was accepted into the RHA exhibition 2014 and his piece sold on opening night ,we are very excited about the future of Dave’s work in the Chimera Gallery.
