Ann Meldon Hugh
Ann Meldon Hugh was born in Dublin in 1952,she graduated from NCAD and is now living outside Kells in County Meath. She has been working professionally as a full time sculptor since 1989 and has been commisioned to do many public sculptures ( Ferdia and Chuculainn,Silver Brosna,Gateway to Meath,Market Place and JFK , to name a few) with her most recent work , a full size bronze sculpture in the new secondary school in Athboy, Co Meath. Ann works in bronze, stainless steel, stone and ceramic. She firmly believes in public art and it’s discourse with people. “Art should provoke a reaction” and also says ” That the people who are going to beliving around the piece and will see it on a daily basis, should have an input in it’s development. Her oeuvre is dominated by her interest in the human figure, myth, nature and history. Her pieces both from her studio and the public forum , relate to man’s relationship with his environment and much of her work focuses on that. Her attention to detail will invoke mystery and the viewer will continue to find something new on each subsequent viewing.
Ann Meldon Hugh also creates smaller pieces for the collector and will also undertake commisions of all sizes and media. We are delighted to welcome Ann Meldon Hugh to the Chimera Gallery and looking forward to displaying her fine sculpture.
